"Baby is cold, Mommy."

Sydney requested a blanket for her baby and who can resist such a cute request. I have also been wanting to try out sometime a little different with crocheting so I made an attempt at a granny square crochet blanket for 'baby.' I do need a little practice to get the tension of the yarn more uniform so that the stitches are more even. I do like how it turned out as a first try though. I would like to add a few more rows around the edge but that will have to wait; Sydney just can't wait to play with it any longer.

"Baby is cold, Mommy."
"Ok, you can have it now, Syd."

Gray outside but color inside...

As we prepare for yet another set of rain today Sydney and I have been busy putting finishing touches around the house and starting new little projects. I do love the rain but I think I am ready for spring. I am just feeling ready for a change, for fresh starts and new beginnings. We added fun candy for Valentine's Day (and of course some hearts), started crocheting little flowers for a special project, and continued working on that other little gift for a certain April baby.

Slightly Rainy Day = Girl Time

We awoke this morning to mild rain and although it was finished before 10am Sydney and I decide to celebrate a rain day anyway. We got down all the sidewalk chalk (thanks Mom) and used the giant sticks on her chalkboard easel. Followed by painting Sydney's nails, helping with laundry, a nap, and a little sewing.

I finished the first bird project. I made a little penguin shirt for Sydney. I used a combination of sewing machine and hand sewing. I really am just experimenting and trying to figure out what works best. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any suggestions please share.

Fabric Fabric Fabric

(Sorry for the bad light in the photo, I think I need to take Photography lessons.)

I have finally started in on the first projects using my new little birds. The first is not finished yet but looking at different combinations of fabrics has been getting me excited. I think I definitely NEED more to add to my stash. Although, I think this is becoming a common "need" which I must control. Here are just a few items I 'must have' soon: this Alexander Henry, some from the Katie Jump Rope line from Denyse Schmidt, and I can't wait for Amy Butler's new line Midwest Modern.

Have a wonderful long weekend!

Crochet

I have officially finished my very first crochet project. It is a gift and I don't want to spoil the surprise but here is a little glimpse. I really enjoyed learning to crochet and doing this first little project. I have already started a baby blanket for a sweet baby girl due in April. (hint hint) I don't know if it is just because it is new and exciting but I really enjoyed crocheting more than knitting. I think that I will need to finish another project or two before passing judgment though.

Four Happy Years

From the very first moment I saw you
That's when I knew
All the dreams I held in my heart Had suddenly come true
Knock me over stone cold sober
Not a thing I could say or do
Cause baby when I'm walking with you now My eyes are so wide Like you reached right into my head And turned on the light inside
Turning on the light
Inside my mind... yea...

Come on baby it's all right
Sunday, Monday, day or night
Written blue on white, it's plain to see

Be mine, be mine!
Rainy, shiny, night or day
What's the difference anyway
Honey 'til your heart belongs to me

If I had some influence, girl
With the powers that be
I'd have them fire that arrow at you
Like they fired it right at me
Maybe when your heart and soul are burning
You might see
That every time I'm talking with you
It's always over too soon
That every day feels so incomplete 'Til you walk into the room
Say the word now, girl
I'll jump that moon... yea...

Come on baby it's OK
Rainy, shiny, night or day
There's nothing in the way now
Don't you see

Be mine, be mine!
Winter, summer, day or night
Centigrade or Fahrenheit
Baby 'til your heart belongs to me

Be Mine, Be mine
Thursday, Friday, short or long
When you got a love so strong
How can it be wrong now? Mercy me

Be Mine, Be mine
Jumpin' Jesus, holy cow!
What's the difference anyhow
Baby 'til your heart belongs to me

On fire, my body's on fire, my body's on fire,
My body's on fire, now run to my side, mmm mmm
Be Mine, be mine

I'm back...

Well sort of anyways. I can't believe it has been almost a month since I last posted. Let's just say that while I was expecting December to be a busy month, I had no idea what was in store. In the past month we have moved (slightly unexpected but for the better), been out of town more than at home, visited/hugged/meet many friends and family, thrown the annual party for my work, and tried to remain sane through it all. We are still largely living with boxes everywhere but slowly I am finding were everything will go in the new apartment. I have longed to get started on some ideas for the new characters (thanks again Shane) but we hardly have a place to eat dinner right now so crafting space is nonexistent. Thanks to Marissa who taught me to crochet this week. Without that new little project I won't have anything creative going on right now. I promise to share more soon.
